FULL STORY TA195 The Villa with a Pool

CHAPTER I: THE WRATH OF THE HEIRESS

The silence that preceded the storm in the majestic Villa de las Flores was always the most dangerous. Located in the most exclusive and heavily guarded area of Lomas de Chapultepec, the Vallejo family residence stood before the world as an impregnable monument to the power, opulence, and lineage of Mexican high society. However, behind the imposing gray quarry walls, the high carved wooden ceilings, and the imported marble finishes, the rot of betrayal and jealousy had already taken deep, impossible-to-uproot holds. That particular night, the air in the grand main living room felt unbearably dense, impregnated with the scent of fresh jasmine arrangements from the exterior garden and the subtle yet unmistakable metallic odor of absolute fear.

Elena, a woman of approximately thirty-five years whose cold and aristocratic beauty was as famous in social circles as her absolute lack of scruples, observed the young woman standing before her with a gaze loaded with infinite contempt. Elena wore a spectacular dark silk evening gown that clung to her curves with the dangerous elegance of a rattlesnake, and her diamond and white gold jewelry flashed with a hostile light under the enormous Murano glass chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. She represented the pure lineage, the old money, and the commercial alliances that had cemented her family’s empire for generations.

Standing barefoot in front of her, trembling from head to toe, was Sofia. At barely twenty-four years old, the young woman wore a simple white fine linen dress that, despite its looseness, failed to hide the pronounced and evident curve of her belly, betraying a pregnancy of just over six months. Sofia represented everything that Elena detested with all her soul: the humility of a rural origin, a disarming youth, and, above all, the living fruit of a marital betrayal that threatened to strip Elena of the throne she considered hers by divine and legal right.

The tension contained for months exploded in a millisecond of pure violence. Elena did not utter any warning, nor did she allow the young woman to speak a single word. With the lightning speed of a predator defending its territory, she raised her right hand and unleashed a colossal slap, loaded with accumulated hatred, striking Sofia’s cheek. The impact was dry and brutal, a dull sound that echoed loudly against the room’s exposed beams.

The immense force of the blow caused Sofia’s head to snap violently to the side, instantly losing control of her body. Her feet failed to find traction on the polished and highly slippery stone floor surface. Without a point of support and completely devoid of stability, the young woman’s body was thrown backward with a terrifying inertia. Her back collided full force against the gigantic full-length mirror that dominated the side wall of the room, an invaluable antique piece brought from Europe, framed in a heavy gold-leaf structure.

The mirror’s glass shattered with the destructive violence of a detonation. A deafening and shocking crash filled the space of the living room as millions of sharp fragments flew in all directions, shining under the spotlights like a deadly rain of floating blades. Sofia bounced off the wooden frame and fell heavily onto the stone tiles, collapsing directly into the middle of the dense sea of broken glass covering the floor.

Instinctively, driven by an absolute and desperate maternal reflex, Sofia curled into a fetal position. She wrapped both arms around her swollen belly in a desperate attempt to protect the fragile life growing inside her from the cutting edges that surrounded her. A sharp moan of profound pain and terror escaped her parted lips as she felt the smaller crystals pierce the fabric of her white dress and begin to bite into the delicate surface of her skin. Elena took a firm step forward, and her stiletto heels crushed the remains of the mirror with a sinister, relentless crunch. She stood right over the defenseless young woman, looking down at her from her height with bloodshot, enraged eyes and a freezing smile on her face.

“Get out of here, trash!” Elena spat out with a voice so laced with venom that it seemed to freeze what little warmth remained in the room.

Sofia continued to sob on the floor, completely unable to articulate a single coherent word, clenching her teeth with superhuman strength to resist the piercing pain that began to radiate from her lower back toward her lower abdomen.

It was exactly at that second of maximum vulnerability that the massive and heavy double mahogany doors connecting to the main vestibule of the residence burst open with a deafening crash. In the threshold of the entrance appeared the imposing figure of Ricardo Vallejo. At fifty years old, the respected and feared patriarch of the family maintained an imposing physical presence; his impeccable tailored dark suit accentuated his indisputable air of absolute authority and total control. However, his usual expression of cold calm and business calculation disintegrated completely in a fraction of a second as he witnessed the hellish scene unfolding before his eyes: the historic mirror shattered into a thousand pieces, the trails of blood beginning to stain the purity of the polished stone, and above all, Sofia lying defenseless among the splinters.

Ricardo’s gaze underwent a horrifying mutation, transforming into an expression of primitive, murderous fury that none of his partners or enemies had ever seen. Immediately, his attention swiftly shifted toward his wife. Elena, meeting the dark, bulging eyes of her husband head-on, suddenly felt all the arrogance and confidence that characterized her evaporate into thin air. The color instantly drained from her cheeks, leaving her skin tone as pale as a corpse’s. She instinctively took a half-step back, raising her trembling hands in a useless and desperate attempt to justify her actions and halt the imminent tempest looming over her.

“I-It’s not what you think!” Elena managed to stammer, with a thin thread of voice that betrayed the absolute panic running down her spine.

CHAPTER II: THE PRICE OF CRUELTY

Elena’s trembling words fell into the most absolute and indifferent of voids. For a man with Ricardo’s temperament, who had forged his colossal fortune and fearsome reputation in the ruthless and relentless battles for power in the northern and central parts of the country, the explanations of an aggressor entirely lacked validity or interest. There was no room for moral judgments, no previous verbal reprimands, nor the slightest hesitation in any of his firm movements.

Ricardo advanced with the determination and destructive force of an enraged bull that has locked onto its target. He crossed the distance separating him from his wife in just two powerful, calculated strides. Before Elena could coordinate a retreating movement or utter a plea for mercy, Ricardo launched a massive side kick, directed with surgical precision straight at the woman’s abdomen. The impact of the leather boot against Elena’s body was accurate, sharp, and truly brutal.

The devastating blow knocked the oxygen out of Elena’s lungs instantly. Her body, propelled by the tremendous inertia and violence of the impact, was launched backward, traveling several meters through the air without offering any resistance. She was projected directly through the wide threshold of the sliding glass doors that connected the main living room to the outdoor terrace area, which fortunately were wide open to allow the fresh Mexican night breeze to pass through.

Elena’s body traced a perfect parabola in the night air before falling disastrously flat on her back right into the center of the villa’s immense, illuminated swimming pool. The roar caused by the water breaking under the weight of her body was simply monumental. A huge column of chlorinated water shot into the air, forcefully splashing the terrace tiles, the fine outdoor furniture, and the decorative plants, abruptly shattering the artificial peace of the property.

Ricardo halted his advance right at the outer edge of the window, his chest heaving violently beneath the fabric of his dark jacket, his fists clenched with such intensity that his knuckles threatened to break the skin. He glared at the surface of the pool for a brief, freezing second, and with a booming voice that seemed to spring from the depths of the earth itself, he let out a scream that definitively sealed the end of their matrimonial history:

“Get out!”

Without wasting a single instant of his valuable time checking on the physical condition of the woman floating and struggling in the water, Ricardo pivoted nimbly on his heels and sprinted at top speed back toward the center of the living room. He dropped to his knees without hesitation on the hard polished stone floor, completely ignoring the fact that the sharp fragments of the shattered mirror were piercing the fine fabric of his designer trousers and sinking viciously into his own flesh, staining it red.

With infinite delicacy, an almost mystical tenderness that wildly contrasted with the physical brutality he had just displayed moments ago, Ricardo slid his large, calloused hands beneath Sofia’s battered body. He lifted her with extreme care so as not to cause her more pain, pulling her firmly against his broad chest, allowing the young woman’s head to rest completely in the protective hollow of his shoulder as he enveloped her in a desperate embrace. His black eyes anxiously searched for any visible trace of blood on the front of the white dress, deeply fearing the worst outcome for the child she carried in her womb.

“Forgive me,” Ricardo whispered directly into her ear, his voice visibly breaking due to a dense mixture of internal pain, suffocating guilt, and a profound love that he no longer had any intention of hiding from the world. “Forgive me, my love. I shouldn’t have left you alone in this house for a single minute with that monster. Hold on, please, hold on for our son.”

CHAPTER III: BETWEEN WATER AND BLOOD

Outside the property, the waters of the pool continued to churn violently. Elena finally emerged to the surface, gasping uncontrollably and coughing hard as she swallowed mouthfuls of air and chlorinated water amidst a mixed attack of panic, asphyxiation, and piercing pain. The brutal blow to her abdominal area had left her almost unable to process oxygen, and the dead weight of her soaked evening gown constantly dragged her toward the bottom as if it were a lead weight designed to drown her. With an effort bordering on the superhuman, she managed to painfully drag herself to the edge of the pool, clinging to the concrete with broken nails and fingers numbed by the impact.

From her precarious position, looking up through the open windows, she could observe with total clarity the perfect scene that consolidated her own familial ruin. Ricardo, the most powerful man in the region, the one whom governors and businessmen feared equally, was on his knees, humiliating himself for a simple girl with no last name, offering her a protection and affection that he had always coldly denied to her, his legitimate wife. A wave of pure, renewed hatred, much more burning than any physical pain, coursed through Elena’s veins. She swore to herself, as she expelled the water from her lungs, that they would both pay dearly for that affront with tears of blood.

Inside the grand living room, absolute chaos began to take hold of the house staff. Ricardo’s authoritative shouts had echoed throughout the architectural structure, waking the employees sleeping in the rear wing.

“Ramiro! Chabela!” roared the mansion’s owner, his voice forever shattering the apparent harmony of the night. “Come here right this instant, damn the hour you fell asleep!”

Within a few brief seconds, the hurried and erratic footsteps of the employees began to echo through the marble hallways. Ramiro, the personal chauffeur and a man of absolute trust for Ricardo’s discreet jobs, ran into the living room with wide eyes, followed closely by Chabela, the family’s veteran cook, who covered her mouth with her hands upon witnessing the scene of destruction and violence dominating the place.

“Boss! For the love of God, what happened here?” Ramiro asked with a broken voice, his eyes fixed on the puddles of blood and the immensity of the broken glass.

“Don’t waste time asking stupid questions that don’t concern you, Ramiro,” Ricardo ordered sharply, never once taking his eyes off Sofia’s pale face. “Contact Dr. Mendoza immediately on his private line. Tell him to prepare the emergency operating room at his private clinic and to send an ambulance with the most discreet and professional paramedics under his command. If a single word of what you saw tonight leaves the boundaries of this property, I swear on my life I will sink you into the deepest pit of misery. Move right now!”

Ramiro nodded frantically, pale at the threat, and bolted toward the phone in the main office, tripping over a chair in his flight. Meanwhile, Chabela approached with trembling steps, kneeling at a safe distance so as not to obstruct the boss’s space and offering her services with the utmost respect.

“Bring all the clean towels you can find and a bucket with warm water, Chabela. We urgently need to clean Sofia’s open wounds before the doctors set foot in this house,” Ricardo requested, making a supreme effort to maintain a feigned calm that threatened to burst into tears or more violence.

Sofia, whose eyes remained half-closed and fixed on the man’s face, stretched her fingers with extreme weakness. Her hand gripped the lapel of Ricardo’s bloodstained jacket, leaving a small smear of dust and sweat on the fine fabric.

“Ricardo… the pain won’t stop,” the young woman whispered with a thread of voice that was almost imperceptible. “I’m so scared for our son… I feel a terrible pressure down here… Don’t let her hurt me anymore, please…”

“Calm down, my queen, don’t speak,” he interrupted her, placing a tender kiss on her forehead, which was drenched in cold sweat. “You are under my care and no one in this world is ever going to lay a hand on you again, I swear it on the sacred memory of my parents. That damn wretch is going to pay very dearly for what she did tonight. She has no idea the enemy she just brought upon herself.”

CHAPTER IV: THE SHADOW OF THE ABYSS

While the medical and human drama unfolded with intensity inside the Vallejo residence, Elena finally managed to stabilize her body and climb completely out of the pool. She dragged herself like a wounded creature fueled by resentment across the damp grass of the property’s rear garden. Her expensive high-heeled shoes had been left behind forever at the tiled bottom of the pool, and her fine silk dress, now transformed into a heavy, cold, and shapeless mass of fabric, clung tightly to her legs, hindering her every step. She stood up with evident difficulty, holding the abdominal area where Ricardo’s brutal kick had already begun to manifest a bruised and extremely painful mark that swelled as the minutes passed.

Trembling uncontrollably due to the cold of the early morning and the pent-up rage that threatened to choke her, she slowly approached the shattered windows of the terrace. She knew perfectly well that attempting to re-enter the main room meant risking Ricardo immediately fulfilling his implicit promise to end her life, but the excessive pride of the social class she belonged to would not allow her to flee like a common criminal into the darkness without first leaving a final and irrevocable declaration of open war.

She stopped just a few meters from the destroyed threshold, strategically keeping herself hidden in the dense gloom cast by the terrace’s palm trees, watching with fixed eyes as Chabela rushed back with the white towels and proceeded to assist Ricardo in the delicate task of removing, one by one, the glass fragments embedded in Sofia’s back. The warmth of the treatment and the man’s devotion churned her stomach with nauseating force.

“Enjoy your damn moment of glory, you starving peasant,” Elena muttered to herself, her teeth clenched and her nails digging into the palms of her hands. “Enjoy it well while it lasts, because that bastard creature you carry in your womb is never going to inherit a single split peso of the Vallejo fortune. My father and his political connections will ensure Ricardo’s empire is completely destroyed before we allow an illiterate maid to keep the estate that belongs to us by right of blood.”

Ricardo, who possessed the highly sharpened instincts of a man who had survived commercial betrayals and armed attacks in the violent north of the country, immediately detected the uncomfortable sensation of a hostile presence watching them from outside. He raised his head slowly, and his dark eyes locked precisely onto Elena’s soaked and disheveled silhouette, which stood out ghostly against the pale moonlight falling on the terrace. In his gaze, there was no longer the slightest trace of their past coexistence; there was only a judicial coldness that promised definitive exile or a living death.

“If you continue standing on the grounds of this property when the ambulance crosses the main gate, Elena,” Ricardo warned with a remarkably low voice, yet endowed with such a cutting clarity that it crossed the room effortlessly, “I swear by all that is holy that I will personally order my security men to pick you up and throw you in the middle of the highway like the stray animal you’ve proven to be. Your marriage to me and your rights in this house ended irrevocably the exact second you decided to touch Sofia. Go to your father and tell him to start preparing his best team of lawyers, because starting tomorrow I am going to personally dismantle his business consortium piece by piece, until I leave you all out on the street.”

Elena let out a shrill, hysterical laugh, a high-pitched, joyless sound that abruptly shattered the heavy atmosphere of the place.

“Do you really think your threats scare me in the slightest, Ricardo?” the woman responded from the exterior gloom, raising her voice with arrogance. “I remind you that my father has half the judges and magistrates of this damn state bought and on his payroll. You are absolutely nobody in the high circles without the financial backing and the last name of my family. So enjoy your dying bastard while time permits, because this war has only just begun and I won’t stop until I see you all destroyed.”

Having said this, Elena turned around with a brusque movement and walked with a firm step toward the outer limits of the enormous property, definitively losing herself among the dense shadows of the botanical garden’s exotic trees, leaving behind her an evident trail of chlorinated water and an ancestral hatred that would mark the formal beginning of one of the bloodiest and most ruthless disputes that Mexican high society had witnessed in all of its contemporary history.

CHAPTER V: THE OATH OF THE MANSION

The distant and mournful sound of a medical emergency siren abruptly interrupted the tense and sepulchral silence that had settled in the main living room following Elena’s chaotic retreat. Ramiro entered the room once again, unexpectedly, his face completely drenched in cold sweat from the run and his cell phone still tightly gripped in his right hand.

“Boss, Dr. Mendoza’s private ambulance just crossed the subdivision’s main security checkpoint. They are coming at top speed straight toward the north entrance of the villa,” the chauffeur announced, desperately trying to catch his breath.

“Excellent. Run and open the automatic gates of the internal garage and make sure none of the neighbors from the adjacent houses are snooping around on the public street with their phones,” Ricardo ordered in a relentless tone, without for a moment letting go of Sofia’s weakened body. “Chabela, you are going to stay in this perimeter. I need you to clean up every trace of blood and sweep up this mess of glass as soon as we cross the back door. I do not want the paramedics or the nursing staff to observe any more details than strictly necessary for medical attention. What happened in this room stays buried among the three of us, is that perfectly clear?”

“Yes, boss, don’t you worry about that, rest absolutely assured. God forbid I go around gossiping with outsiders,” the woman responded immediately, crossing herself with devotion as she began gathering the largest fragments of the mirror with the help of a metal dustpan.

Ricardo once again focused the full force of his attention on the fragile woman resting helplessly in his arms. Sofia’s white linen dress now displayed large, concerning bright red stains on the back, right where the shards of the European mirror had penetrated most deeply during the fall. The sharp pain seemed to have plunged the young woman into a critical state of semi-unconsciousness, and her lips, which usually boasted a vibrant, lively pink color, now appeared completely discolored and dry.

“Look me in the eyes, Sofia. Don’t pass out on me now, for all you hold dear in this life,” Ricardo pleaded, definitively and permanently breaking his tough facade as a cold and ruthless businessman. He rested his damp cheek against the young woman’s forehead, experiencing with terror the feverish heat that was beginning to take over her features. “I solemnly swear to you that all of this is going to change starting tonight. We are going to go far away from this damn city. I am going to move you permanently to the southern hacienda, out there in the state lands where no one can easily find us, where that deranged lunatic won’t have the power or the connections to ever hurt you or my son again.”

The powerful headlights of the ambulance suddenly illuminated the destroyed windows of the terrace, projecting elongated, grotesque, and moving shadows against the high walls of the main living room. Two professional paramedics, dressed in completely white medical uniforms and carrying a heavy critical care kit, entered the room with hurried steps, efficiently guided by Ramiro. Upon witnessing the feared Ricardo Vallejo himself on his knees on the blood-covered floor, covered in glass dust and desperately holding a visibly pregnant woman, the medical professionals immediately understood the extreme gravity and strictly confidential nature of the situation they had to handle.

“Mr. Vallejo, please, we ask that you give us some space to work,” instructed the paramedic leading the response team, quickly kneeling next to the young woman’s body to evaluate her vital signs and take her pulse. “Her blood pressure is dropping at a highly alarming rate and her pulse is weak. It is mandatory to transfer her on a stretcher to the private clinic immediately if we want to save both lives.”

Ricardo stood up with solemn slowness, experiencing firsthand the piercing pain of the glass that had embedded itself deeply into his knees during the minutes of waiting, but he uttered no complaint. He followed with a firm step and fixed gaze every movement of the stretcher as the paramedics secured Sofia with extreme care to begin the evacuation from the Villa de las Flores. He knew perfectly well that the coming hours in the operating room would not only decide the immediate future of his descendant but the final destiny of the entire economic empire it had taken him a lifetime to build. Elena’s ruthless betrayal had ignited a destructive fire that would not be easily extinguished, and he was completely determined to burn the entire world down if necessary, just to keep safe the only display of pure and true love that life had granted him amidst so much darkness.

The ambulance turned on its emergency lights and departed at top speed down the tree-lined avenue, definitively losing itself in the cold immensity of the night, leaving the Villa de las Flores plunged into a sepulchral silence, akin to an abandoned colosseum after the execution of the first and brutal battle of a long and bloody war that was only just beginning to be written with ink of blood and fire.
