PART 2 ST011A – I Saved the Sister Who Erased Me

My mother walked to me and the first thing she said was, “I knew you’d come if Valeria needed you.” He didn’t ask how I was or thank him for his surgery. That sentence confirmed that I still saw myself as a family remedy, but not as a child. I gave her the tablet and asked why my name was still on the medical directive. He admitted that Valeria had been suffering from episodes of anxiety and always said that if something serious happened, I would be the only person capable of deciding correctly.

Valeria woke up two days later. When I came in, she asked to speak without our parents. He confessed that he invented my abandonment because he feared that my achievements would make her invisible. A few years later, she wanted to fix it, but Mom was already returning my letters without opening them. Valeria found my office online and put me back as an agent, hoping to create an emergency bridge. That was an apology. That was another decision about my life without asking me.

I put Andrea’s note out of my pocket, which I was still keeping: finish and don’t let anyone decide how much you’re worth. I told Valeria that I had saved a patient because it was my duty but that did not restore our relationship. He had to tell the truth before our parents and give up his letters.

That afternoon she confessed everything. My father asked for forgiveness without excuses. My mother tried to say that she was only protecting her daughter around, till I showed her photographs of my wedding and her grandson, all back with his handwriting. For the first time, she felt that she had not punished a lie and had chosen to have no check.

We started family therapy with clear rules. My parents met my wife and son at a park with no public celebrations and photographs. Valeria paid an annual Andrea memory scholarship for students care for sick families. I quit as a medical agent and asked him to name someone with whom I had a real relationship.

We haven’t been back for five years. We built something new, slow and fact-conditioned. A few months later, my mother opened up before me the last letter she had returned. A photo of my newborn son was inside. He cried, but I didn’t say everything was okay. I told him that if I wanted to meet him, I would have to prove that I would never erase a person again because a story was more comfortable than the truth.
